How a Mammootty joke helped shape Mazhayethum Munpe

Director Kamal has shared an old anecdote about Mazhayethum Munpe, the 1995 film that remains one of Malayalam cinema’s most quoted romances.

Kamal recalled that a joke from Mammootty during their conversations became part of the film’s creative process. He also reiterated that he has largely worked with Mohanlal on his major projects, making his collaborations with Mammootty relatively rare.

The recollection has revived interest in the film, which starred Mammootty and Shobana and is still remembered for its dialogues and music.
